Treatment of Bleeding Wound with Essential Oils

Bleeding Wound:

Some minor wounds bleed profusely. Allowing small wounds to bleed for 30 seconds or so before staunching the blood flow and cleaning the wound can help push dirt and bacteria out of the wound. In the event blood is spurting from an artery or a wound is larger or very deep, seek medical attention immediately.

Staunch Bleeding with Helichrysum:

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Helichrysum essential oil is a strong hemostatic that can be directly applied to wounds to stop bleeding. Use this treatment for small wounds, like shaving accidents and scratches. Use cypress essential oil if helichrysum isn't on hand.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Using a dropper, drip the helichrysum essential oil directly into the wound, using enough to cover the wound. Do not rub.
  2. After the bleeding stops, using a dropper, drip the lavender essential oil over the helichrysum to help prevent infection.
  3. Repeat the application of the lavender essential oil 1 or 2 times a day until the wound heals.

Geranium-Lemon Compress:

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Geranium and lemon essential oils help soothe pain and halt inflammation, while tea tree essential oil helps prevent infection. This soothing compress is ideal for shallow cuts and scrapes.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a medium glass bowl, add the water along with the geranium, lemon, and tea tree essential oils.
  2. Submerge a towel in the water, wring it out, and apply the compress to the affected area. Leave the compress in place until it warms to body temperature.
  3. Do not repeat this treatment after a scab has formed.
