Canker sores are small ulcers of the mouth. They are usually round and are typically gray to white on color with red borders. They are often accompanied by tingling, burning and soreness. Most respond well to natural treatments with essential oils, and often heal within three to seven days. If sores are persistent, large, or numerous, or if they are accompanied by swollen nodes, a fever, or physical sluggishness, be sure to see your doctor as they could be symptomatic of an underlying disease.
Neat Clove Treatment:
Clove essential oil stops the pain and itching that accompany canker sores, and it is a strong antiseptic that promotes healing. Using a cotton swab, apply 1 drop of clove essential oil to the canker sore 3 times a day. If you are sensitive to the essential oil, do not apply clove oil neat; instead, dilute it with a small amount, up to half, of carrier oil, or add 1 drop to 1 tablespoon or more of water and use it as a mouth rinse.
