Treatment of Dry Skin with Essential Oils

Dry Skin:

Scaling, itchiness, redness, and a rough, ashy appearance accompany dry skin. Often, exposure to harsh environmental conditions causes or complicates dry skin, so be certain to reduce exposure, if possible. These natural moisturizers soothe and heal; increasing fluid intake may bring relief, too.

Balancing Palmarosa Blend:

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Palmarosa essential oil moisturizes and balances the skin while promoting skin cell production. It is great for treating dermatitis, and it is also an excellent weapon in the battle against dry skin that can occur on elbows, knees, hands, and feet.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Using your fingertips, apply the palmarosa essential oil to the affected area, followed by the carrier oil.
  2. Repeat the treatment 2 or 3 times a day until dry skin is no longer a problem.

Lavender-Patchouli Bath Oil:

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Both lavender and patchouli soothe inflamed skin and promote healing and overall dermatological health. You can enjoy this oil in a bath or smooth it over large areas of dry, rough skin anytime.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. In a small glass bowl, add the carrier oil along with the lavender and patchouli oils, and stir to combine.
  2. Draw a warm bath and add the entire treatment to the running water.
  3. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Use caution when getting out of the bathtub as it may be slippery.
  4. Repeat this treatment once a day until symptoms subside.
