Treatment of Headache with Essential Oils

Headaches happen to almost everyone from time to time. Often brought on by stress or symptomatic of another condition such as a cold or the flu, headaches may respond well to treatment with essential oils. If you are suffering from chronic, unexplained headaches see your doctor, as an underlying condition could be the cause.

Diffuse Calamus:

Calamus essential oil acts directly on the nervous system to help ease headaches and promote a refreshed, renewed feeling. Diffuse calamus essential oil at the first sign of a headache or use it in an aromatherapy pendant. A few drops can also be placed on a cotton ball and held or placed close enough to allow the vapors to go to work.

Increase Circulation with a Lemon Bath:

Lemon essential oil helps improve circulation, which in turn can help ease headaches. Its usefulness as an antirheumatic aids it reducing the stiffness and tension that often contributes to head pain.

  1. In a small glass bowl, add the carrier oil and lemon essential oil, and stir to combine.
  2. Draw a hot bath and add the entire treatment to the running water
  3. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Use caution when getting out of the bathtub, as it may be slippery.
  4. Repeat treatment as often as you like.
