Treatment of Insomnia with Essential Oils

Insomnia: 

Insomnia is often defined as difficulty in falling sleep or staying asleep. Some people have difficulty in sleeping despite being tired, while others face an issue where when get awaken at night, they can’t sleep again. Almost all insomnia suffers are chronically tired. If your insomnia doesn’t respond to natural treatments, consult your doctor to get an opinion on any other medical problem.

Neroli-Spikenard Bedtime Massage:


 Due to Neroli’s and Spikenard’s sedative properties, they are of an ideal use against fighting insomnia. They promote calmness and serenity to brain and for extra benefits from this cure, make sure your room is dark and quiet. Watching Tv and using electronics can disrupt sleep.

Ingredients: 

  • 3 Ounces of Carrier Oil
  • 24 Drops of Neroli Essential Oil
  • 12 Drops of Spikenard Essential Oil

Directions: 

  1. Take a dark colored glass bottle
  2. Add 3 ounces of carrier oil with 24 drops neroli essential oil and 12 drops of spikenard essential oil
  3. Stir enough to mix well
  4. Apply the blend directly on your body using your fingertips, every night before sleeping
  5. Use this treatment every night before sleeping until normal sleeping patterns resume

Lavender-Petitgrain Bath Oil: 


Lavender Oil is an excellent natural sleep aid, that is also used in many commercial medicines that promote relaxation and restful sleep. Petitgrain essential is a less known essential oil but it has an excellent ability of relaxing the mind. If you want added benefit or efficiency in treatment, light a candle or two instead of electric lights. Vetiver Essential oil can also be used instead of petitgrain essential oil if not available.

Ingredients: 

Directions: 

  1. Take a small bowl
  2. Add 1 tablespoon of carrier oil with 10 drops of lavender essential oil and 5 drops of petitgrain essential oil
  3. Stir enough to mix well
  4. Make a warm water bath and add the blend into running water
  5. Soak in the bath for at least 15 minutes
  6. Take extreme care when exiting the bath as it can be slippery
  7. Use this treatment every night before going to bed until normal sleeping patterns resumes.
