Treatment of Nosebleed with Essential Oils

Nosebleed:

Although nosebleeds are not typically serious, they can be alarming. Often triggered by trauma or prolonged exposure to dry indoor air, nosebleeds are easy to treat. If nosebleeds are frequent, are accompanied by other symptoms, or are the result of a severe trauma, see a doctor.

Geranium Nasal Poultice Rose:

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Rose geranium essential oil is a styptic substance, meaning it can help staunch the flow of blood. It also helps promote tissue healing, making it ideal for stopping and treating noses.

Ingredients:

  • 10 Drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil
  • 1 Small Tampon

Directions:

  1. Drip the rose geranium essential oil on the end of the tampon, then insert it into the affected nostril.
  2. Leave the tampon in place for at least 10 minutes before carefully removing it.

Lemon-Lavender Inhalation:

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Lavender and lemon essential oils soothe the feelings of alarm that often accompany nosebleeds while helping stop bacterial activity. Because this treatment involves pinching, the nostrils closed, use it only if your nosebleed was not caused by trauma to the nose.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Drip the lemon and lavender essential oils on a tissue, then inhale deeply, taking between 10 and 15 breaths in through your nose and out your mouth.
  2. Put the tissue aside and pinch your nostrils closed for 10 minutes
  3. If desired, place and ice pack on the bridge of your nose to help stop the bleeding.
