Treatment of Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) with Essential Oils

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS): 

Premenstrual Syndrome is characterized by symptoms that include mood swings, sadness irritability, bloating, indigestion, cramps, carb cravings, sleep problems, headaches and breast tenderness. Symptoms range in severity, and the effectiveness of treatment with essential oils varies from one woman to the next. If pain and other symptoms are severe, see your doctor for an evaluation, as these could be indicative of an underlying condition.

Improve Mood with Clary Sage: 

Clary sage essential oil is known to uplift the mood. This treatment can be applied in several ways. Diffuse clary sage essential oil in the area where you spend the most lime, place it in an aromatherapy pendant, or add 2 or 3 drops to your bath or to a wash-cloth placed on the floor of your shower. Repeat this treatment as needed to keep your mood stable. 

Lemon Grass Bath: 

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Lemon grass essential oil helps stop bloating associated with PMS; at the same time, it helps stop muscle pain associated with camping. As an added benefit, it revitalizes the mind and helps alleviate stress. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
  • 8 Drops Lemongrass Essential Oil

Directions: 

  1. In a small glass bowl, add the carrier oil and lemongrass essential oil, and stir to combine.
  2. Draw a warm bath and add the entire treatment to the running water.
  3. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Use caution when getting out of the bathtub, as it maybe slippery.
  4. Repeat this treatment once a day as needed.

Clary Sage Bath: 

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Clary sage essential oil is among the most effective womb tonics available; it helps ease painful periods while addressing emotional turmoil and promoting feelings of calm and overall well-being. If you suspect tender breasts, irritability, and weight gain could be due to pregnancy, do not use this remedy, as clary sage stimulates menstruation.

Ingredients: 

  • 1 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
  • 10 Drops Clary Sage Essential Oil 

Directions: 

  1. In a small glass bowl, add the carrier oil and clary sage essential oil, and stir to combine.
  2. Draw a warm bath and add the entire treatment to the running water.
  3. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Use caution when getting out of the bathtub, as it may be slippery.
  4. Repeat this treatment once a day as needed.

Frankincense-Melissa Soak: 

MAKES 1 TREATMENT

Frankincense essential oil is an effective womb tonic that helps ease heavy periods while oil has antispasmodic properties that help put a stop to cramps. This treatment has a lovely fragrance that soothes nervous tension and alleviates crankiness; as melissa essential oil is a fairly potent sedative, it is best to use this treatment in evening.

Ingredients: 

  • 1 Tablespoon Carrier Oil
  • 8 Drops Frankincense Essential Oil
  • 8 Drops Melissa Essential Oil

Directions: 

  1. In a small glass bowl, add the carrier oil along with the frankincense and melissa essential oils, and stir to combine.
  2. Drawn warm bath and add the entire treatment to the running water.
  3. Soak for at least 15 minutes. Use caution when getting out of the bathtub, as it maybe slippery.
  4. Repeat this treatment once a day as needed.
